I chose this, apparently homemade, rap that talks about the entire book, or least the most important events of the story. It starts talking from when Holden got expelled, passing through minor details like his smoking habit to his constantly thinking about his siblings and the girl called Jane, which he seems to have feelings for. Even makes a reference when Holden explicitly thinks about the guy he knew that committed suicide and how that thought started to mess up his mind while he was analyzing everything while he was at a park. It also goes through Holden's desire of save the children's innocence. This rap gives to the listener an accurate summary about who is Holden Caulfield; a misfortune teenager that's facing a depression and doesn't know to assimilate he's becoming a grown man and maybe that's why he's so in to be the "Catcher in the rye" (for a better understanding check out the other entrance on this blog). I really like this song's...

When Holden woke up in New York, and after having breakfast, he went to Broadway because he wanted to buy a record called "Little Shirley Beans" for her little ten old years sister Phoebe. He claims that she's a wonderful girl because she understands everything he means when he talks to her, even though she's only a child. During the book, Holden's always complaining of being tired of people phoniness, but in contrast, his sister's childish attitude is one the few things that seems to make him genuinely happy. This fact combined with that his sister totally understands him and that he likes the song "Little Shirley Beans" even it's aimed for children, makes me thing that part of his mental breakdown is he's not enough mature to have a complex comprehension of the world; Holden behaves as child in many occasions and is understood mostly for one of them, so this could be the reason why he says that he liked this song, despite in the book the re...

This is a more personal entry, but I'm gonna do it anyway. During the first chapters, Holden describes his interactions with particular pair of students, which are Stradlater and Ackley, his roommate and his next door neighbor in his dorm respectively. He describes Ackley as an unbearable man, because time to time tends to enter in his room to touch everything that's on it; also because he doesn't care about his oral health as Holden said. Besides, he doesn't take Holden's hints that he should leave the room; he doesn't listen when Holden tells him to stop doing something, like the time Ackley was cutting his nails and dropped them on the floor. Despite Holden's description, the book allow the readers know that Holden know that Ackley does what he does because he's unpopular and insecure. But the protagonist just pay attention to the book's, metaphorically speaking. I'm self conscious that I chose a rock and roll song that has positives vibes, b...

Holden Caulfield is the protagonist from the book The Catcher in the Rye. One the things about him that caught my attention was his hate for all the the phony things and people. Since the beginning of the book he makes pretty clear how much the phoniness bothers him, for example when he said that the principal's daughter knew that his father was a phony slob, or the time when Mr. Spencer, the history teacher which he gets along with, used the word grand to refer to his parents and he said he could throw up just for hearing it. There are other examples like when he told he left Elkton Hills Schools because it was full of phonies and its principal was the phoniest of all, or when he calls his senior roommate phony for being a religious. When I read how he complains about the false things remains me of the song "The pretender", by Foo Fighters, that has phrases like "Keep you in the dark you know they all pretend". Also, I think the phrase "Spinning infinity ...
